Bass Islands AmeriCorps 2023 Intern Arrives

Lake Erie Islands Conservancy happily introduces Anna Burghardt, AmeriCorps intern for 2023!

Ms. Burghardt, a senior at University of Dayton majoring in Environmental Biology, assists with purple martin and tree swallow nest monitoring with Paula Ziebarth, and with our prothonotary warbler boxes with Lisa Brohl at Middle Bass Island.  She helps with emerald ash borer parasatoid releases and will keep an eye on Conservancy nature trails. Anna also supports Renee Fults at the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center, and with work at Put-in-Bay Township Park District.  Look for Anna at the preserves and watch for a special program coming soon.

Hi, my name is Adrianna Burghardt.  I grew up in Troy, Ohio, where I graduated in the spring of 2020. This fall I will enter my senior year at the University of Dayton where I have spent the last three amazing years. I am an active member in the sustainability club, Vice President of UD’s Equestrian team, and an officer in my sorority, Kappa Delta.

Next spring, I will obtain my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology.  I hope to pursue my masters after graduation. I am super excited to learn and work under Lisa Brohl and Renee Fultz this summer in the Lake Erie islands community.

This is my second summer living on the Island, as I am also employed by Frosty’s with Kim Stoiber-Morrison and Ryan Stoiber. I look forward to taking data on the purple Martin and Tree Swallow populations here on Put-in-Bay, as well as help teach younger generations about the importance of conservation at Nature camp.  I’m excited for a summer full of learning!
