Embrace Island Winter
Thoughts for Islanders, by Amanda Downey
As the days get shorter and the temperature drops, the perfect opportunity arises to cozy up by the fire, enjoy a warm cup of tea, and make some time for self-care. Whether it’s reading a good book, practicing yoga, enjoying television, or taking a long walk, island winter is all about finding moments of peace and tranquility. Make the most of this season and embrace the slower pace. Use this time to reflect, set new goals, and nourish mind, body, and soul. Take a break from hustle and bustle and allow yourself to unwind.
When snow falls, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere, appreciate the beauty of the landscape around us. Use this off-season to reconnect yourself to the Bass Islands’ natural gifts–the state park, historical grounds, nature trails, the unencumbered harbors. Winter is our time for inner growth and rejuvenation; both can come through good connections to our environment.
An island winter is not just a season, it is a time to find peace. Embrace it and let it nourish your spirit. Let the accumulating lake ice be a reminder to engage in self-care and inner growth, and let these nourish and refresh you. Our Lake Erie setting delivers unique gifts: celebrate the holidays with this in mind and absorb all which an island winter offers.
