Missing Put-in-Bay Teenager Found; Island Entertainer Expresses Appreciation

“What a fine and unique community Put-in-Bay is. An island boy went missing yesterday after he hadn’t been seen since the night before. Pretty scary stuff. The police and the fire departments swung into action. That you’d expect, and they did a fantastic job. The community also came together for a vast search of the island from the land, water and air. I also expected that. But, when I saw how many people had come as volunteers last night I was amazed. I would estimate there were easily 150 people, probably a lot more. They were young, middle-aged and senior citizens. They were life long islanders, summer cottagers, business owners, retirees, school teachers, students and seasonal employees. People who I have seen on the island for many years and people who I know that this is their first year here. All trying desperately to help the fire department’s search, scouring all sectors of the island, some wading through fields with weeds up to their shoulders, some working into the darkness. What a wonderful example of a diverse community coming together for the urgent need of a neighbor. This island took a collective sigh of relief this morning as the news arrived that boy has been found on the mainland and is on his way back to his family. Many people never see this side of this small community. How proud can you be? PRETTY DAMN PROUD!”
