Put-in-Bay School Continues Active Schedule of Activities
School News – by Steve Poe, Superintendent
The Harvest Dinner on November 7th was a huge success. Nearly 300 dinners were served, with the proceeds going to the Gustav Heineman Scholarship. We want to thank the many businesses who donated food, parents who baked desserts or worked in the kitchen, and Tip Niese for allowing us to use Tipper’s Lounge. We especially want to recognize the efforts of Woody Widmar who worked in the kitchen for two days preparing the delicious turkey meal
Our High School Academic Challenge team has been practicing and competing for a couple months. Recently, our students lost a very close match to Defiance High School at the WBGU “Brain Game” on November 13th. Each round was intense, especially round two when it was a head-to-head competition. Our students came back to avenge that loss on November 20th, winning two of three matches at the “Quiz Bowl” competition. Our Panthers beat Fremont St. Joe, 80 – 55; lost to Fostoria St. Wendelin, 90 – 115; and defeated Upper Sandusky 125 – 115. Students competing for the Panthers and advisor Mrs. Linda Rence this year include: Elliot Kowalski, Gunnar Auger, Meredith Engel, Carter Pugh, Sophia Schroeder, Kaylyn Goebel, Erin Urge, and Tatyana Kowalski. Good luck at the next “Quiz Bowl” competition on December 11th!
Our basketball team hosts their first game of the season on Saturday, December 6nd versus Ottawa Hills. Coach Schuffenecker returns a number of talented players from last year’s 8 win, 1 loss squad, including seniors Elliot Kowalski and Gunnar Auger. Come support the team and go Panthers!
Santa Claus will be visiting Put-in-Bay School for our annual community holiday party on Sunday, December 14th at 6:00. He will have gifts for the kids and desserts for everyone. Come join the fun!
Our annual holiday concert is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00pm. Music teacher Gay Pippert-Ladd has her students singing traditional holiday songs this year. Last month, our choir performed for our veterans at the annual Veteran’s Day program and at the Veteran’s Day dinner in the evening.
On the topic of music, the school is selling two used pianos. We are asking $300 for an upright piano and $150 for an electric Roland piano. Please call the school if you are interested in purchasing either piano.
We would like to advise all parents to keep their telephones close by on mornings when there is “questionable” weather. This year we will announce delays and closings via our “School Reach” instant messaging system.
With the holiday season near and the February winter break just around the corner, we want to remind everyone of the school attendance/vacation policy. Parents should have received a letter and a copy of the attendance/vacation policy last spring, prior to the start of school, and another mailing last month. If you have any questions about your child’s attendance or the vacation policy, please call the school.
