Put-in-Bay Panthers Compete This Weekend at the Great Lakes 4-Island Tournament

The Put-in-Bay Panthers have arrived on Beaver Island, Michigan for the annual Great Lakes 4-Island Basketball Tournament, a unique event that brings together student-athletes from some of the most remote school communities in the Great Lakes. This year’s participating islands include South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay, OH), Beaver Island (MI), Mackinac Island (MI), and Washington Island (WI).

The Panthers traveled by plane, bus, and ferry to reach Beaver Island—one of the longest athletic trips any Ohio school will make all season. The tournament offers a rare chance for island schools to compete face-to-face, continuing a tradition built on camaraderie, sportsmanship, and connection among Great Lakes islands.

About the Tournament

The Great Lakes Islands Basketball Tournament (also known as the Great Lakes 4-Island Tournament) began in 2018 following inspiration from the Great Lakes Islands Alliance (GLIA) summit and former Put-in-Bay Superintendent Steve Poe. Now in its seventh year (with the exception of 2020), the event rotates among the host islands and has become a highlight of the winter athletics calendar for all four schools.

How to Watch

All games will be streamed live on the Put-in-Bay Athletics YouTube channel beginning at 12:00 PM:
