The Village of Put-in-Bay, located on South Bass Island in the middle of Lake Erie, is seeking to hire a fiscal officer.

Candidates must be willing to relocate to the island within six months of appointment.

The fiscal officer, whose duties are outlined by state and village law, is responsible for the clerk-treasurer duties of the municipality, including, without limitation: Paying bills, setting budgets, attending and recording council minutes at all regular and committee meetings, overseeing collection of monies and deposits from village docks, working with the utilities clerk to make sure monthly water/sewer bills are collected and deposited properly, completing bi-weekly payroll, preparing correspondence on behalf of council, responding to village public records requests that pertain to the records maintained by council and the fiscal officer, attending yearly training as required and maintaining required certifications, and additional duties as assigned. The scope of duties of the position  will be discussed  at time of interview.

The ideal candidate would have earned a 4-year college degree, preferably in finance or accounting, or have equivalent experience. High computer literacy necessary.

Must be bonded in accordance with law prior to performing any duties as fiscal officer.

Must be able to work independently. Self starting is a must. Ability to keep open communications with department heads and elected officials necessary for success in the job, including village administrator and police chief, mayor’s court clerk, mayor, and village council members.

Proposed salary range starting between $40,000 and $50,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Retirement and health insurance benefits included.

On-the-job training to be provided as necessary, funded by council.   Local municipality services through the auditor of state will also be provided.

The fiscal officer is expected to maintain a 40-hour work week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, being available to the public with a scheduled lunch break.
