“Big Nut” Jon Peters (super-fan for The Ohio State University) and “First Lady Nut” Terese Peters will present a scholarship check for $27,500 to Ottawa County Community Foundation. Big Nut” will be in “full paint.”
The event takes place on Wednesday, 1 May 2024, 5:15 pm, at the Port Clinton City Schools Board of Education office, 811 South Jefferson Street.
Annually, students seek financial aid as they take their next steps into adulthood via higher education. The Peters originally partnered with OCCF in Fall 2023 to address that need by presenting an initial donation of $25,000 to establish an endowed fund to provide scholarships to Ottawa County students going to OSU.
In 2023, more than $184,000 went to 153 students via more than 55 individual Ottawa County Community Foundation scholarship funds. The donation presented on May 1 will be added to that endowed scholarship fund and will provide support after the Peters’ passing.
Big Nut and First Lady attend OSU’s regular season games. In 1995, Jon won a Best Dressed contest. This proved to be the unexpected start of his game-winning notoriety. The Peters have used the “Big Nut” attention and public appearance compensations as a way to give back and support student education.
