Put-in-Bay senior citizens were treated to a Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday. Senior Center site manager Christine Joyce organized a a festive and welcoming event 
which featured a fine meal (Chicken Cordon Bleu catered by Sue Thwaite!), caroling, and bountiful gift bags prepared by the Put-in-Bay Girl Scouts. Annie Parker presented a touching German rendition of Silent Night, accompanied on the piano by Mary Steunenberg. Laughter and good fellowship filled the inside as a two inches of snow draped South Bass Island.
Christine Joyce shared the following informative summary of the Senior Center’s exciting and active year:
“We had a great turn out for the bus trip to Toledo’s National Museum of the Great Lakes. We toured the museum and the freighter Schoonmaker, and finished the day with lunch at Tony Packo’s. A trip to Cirque du Soleil at the Huntington Center, Kentucky Derby Day Social, travel to Gibraltar Island for the historic tour during Island Green Week, a Solar Eclipse program, Toledo Mud Hens game, Antique Road Race picnic, Winter & Fall Barn Parties, Wii Bowling tournaments, and OSU tailgate parties filled the 2017 calendar.
Special events are always a big hit, but the regular exercise program on M/W/F’s at 9am followed by coffee social is still the most attended activity–averaging 30 people in the summer and 15 in the winter. Another free service is provided by the Ottawa County Health Department. It is the 60+ Clinic. A nurse comes to the island every 4th Thursday of the month and provides a blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and other assessments.
I am so blessed to work with such a great group of people who are always coming up with fresh ideas and are willing to help orchestrate them and volunteer whenever needed. My wish for 2018 is that it will be a year fulled with new adventures, friendships, laughter, and good health for everyone!”
