Put-in-Bay Panther Basketball finished the calendar year strong with big win versus Jones Leadership Academy in an away game on Monday, 17 December 2023. The final score ended up 38-33 and improves the Panther record to 5 wins and 4 losses.
The win was also a special victory for Coach Craig Schuffenecker as it marked his 200 career coaching win as a Panther volleyball and basketball coach. Shuffenecker credits all the hardworking athletes he has coached. “When you’re around great people for a long time, milestones like this are bound to happen,” he said. “I would like to thank all the hardworking athletes who contributed to all these wins. It has been a pleasure to coach so many quality people,” he added.
The day started early as stormy weather caused the Panthers to leave on a noon ferry. The boat ride was rough, but it prepared the team for the back-and-forth game which ensued. The Panthers took a 14-4 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, and a 20-15 lead into halftime. The Mustangs took a 33-31 lead in the fourth, but then sophomore Cody Kowalski made two straight baskets and the team ended on a 7-0 run for the win.
It was a great day for the Panther Basketball team, now on a holiday break with sights set for action on January 6th.
