Travelers on Langram Road, South Bass Island, will notice a yard tainted by charcoal black burn residue. Contrary to one’s first impression, the burn was completed on purpose. A prescribed burn is a fire done under specific weather and soil conditions to remove old, tall grass, fertilize the soil for more nutritious grass, and to secure healthier wildlife, according to a Texas agriculture professor.
