How Low Will Lake Erie Go?

Put-in-Bay harbor water levels change daily, but this November has seen some dramatic swings.  The OSU Gibraltar Classcam presents a stunning look at the rocky bar which protrudes from Gibraltar Island.  The panoramic view below offers a look from the Miller Boat Line’s village dock.  What is often called “alligator reef,” now seems more like a new pond in development.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers, “as of October 7th, 2022, Lake Erie’s water level is forecast to be 572.08 feet. This is now 5 inches less than the recorded lake level last month but 13 inches less than what was recorded in the previous year. This is 22inches less than the record high water level in 1986 and 42 inches higher than the lowest record set in 1934. Over the next month, Lake Erie is expected to decrease by 4 inches.”
