Put-in-Bay Fire Department Practices Ice Resuce

Put in Bay VFDSaturday’s continuing winter conditions created a perfect opportunity for the Put-in-Bay Volunteer Fire Department to conduct an ice-safety seminar and practice rescue.  Practice is conducted once a year, and everyone is taught how to use the board, rope and ladder for extraction.  Chief J.R. Domer reported the water temperature was 32°F and the air temperature 35°F.  Donna Steinbach, of Put-in-Bay Daily™, volunteered to be a person in need of rescue.  She reported, “I felt an incredibly overwhelming mixture of adrenalin-rush and claustrophobia.”

The South Bass Island community remains appreciative and proud to have a professionally trained Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service.  “Thank you, volunteers!”
