Put-in-Bay Panther Basketball welcomed Harvest Temple Crusaders to the Island for the last triple-header of the year. The games started with the junior high players, but the Panthers were defeated 27-38 against a tough squad. Lear Cooks lead all scorers with 15 points. Other highlights include

Olivia Christensen hitting a 3-point shot and Kate Hubner completing an old-fashioned 3-point play by making a free throw after getting fouled on a made basket. The junior high team finished their season with a 0-4 record, but Coach Schuffenecker said, “It doesn’t reflect how close the games were and how hard the kids played.” The squad consisted of three boys and four girls. Three out of the four teams they played were all boys.

The next to tip off were the boys team. The Panthers and Crusaders traded baskets and the game was close through three quarters. The visitors ended up winning 50-35 after pulling away late.
Coach Schuffenecker said of his boys team, “They fight incredibly hard and havn’t found much success in the win column this year, but I am extremely proud of how they compete–they always battle.” Senior Doug Steidl led the Panther scoring with 17 points.
The lady Panthers took on the lady Crusaders in the final game of the day. The team was looking for redemption after a tough loss earlier in the season at Harvest.
Senior McKenna Stacy started the game with two threes to help the Panthers to a 12-4 first quarter lead. The Panthers then pulled away and won 36-26. Ava Heineman lead the team with 16 points.
The team was very excited to avenge the early season loss! With that 37-26 victory the school gym fell quiet and the left the Panthers to prepare for their final week of competition.
