OSU Columbus Students Conduct Research at Stone Lab

Stone LaboratoryStone Lab at Gibraltar Island, Lake Erie, hosted a limnology field-session this weekend.  Limnology is an interdisciplinary science integrating the study of geological, physical, chemical, and biological processes in lakes, ponds, rivers, springs, streams and wetlands.  This weekend’s session was led by Dr. James Bauer, professor at Ohio State University in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology.Stone Laboratory

Stone Lab Holds Open House on Saturday, 9 September

OSU Stone Lab Gibraltar IslandHave you ever been curious about the Lake Erie science that takes place at Stone Lab?  Do you want to take a peek inside Cooke Castle, or peer down from Perry’s Lookout?  Well, grab the opportunity at the 19th Annual Friends of Stone Lab (FOSL) Open House from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, 9 September 2017.

Activities include:

–Tour of Stone Laboratory

–Free transportation to from Aquatic Visitor Center to Gibraltar Island and back

–Tour of the 6.5-acre island and view Cooke Castle

–Lectures and laboratory sessions

–Historical photos, summer class information, publications

–Historic South Bass Island Lighthouse tours available (transportation not provided)

Free transportation to/from Gibraltar Island will be provided by Ohio State University’s Aquatic Visitor Center.  The last boat to Gibraltar from the AVC is at 3:30pm.  The last boat off Gibraltar Island is at 4pm.  Water taxi service to/from Gibraltar Island is also available at The Boardwalk ($3 per person, one way) on Bayview Avenue.
