Heat Advisory: Take Precautions for Humans and Pets

URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Cleveland OH 308 PM EDT Fri Jun 29 2018 Dangerous Heat and Humidity Expected This Weekend... Dangerous temperatures will develop over the local area this weekend. Heat index values will exceed 100 degrees most areas on Saturday and may reach 100 degrees again on Sunday. 100 degrees is the minimum criteria needed for a Heat Advisory. On Saturday...the highest heat index values are expected across Northwest Ohio. Heat index values in the Toledo area could exceed 105 degrees for an hour or two. By Sunday the warmest readings are expected to shift further east into Northeast Ohio. Additional Heat Advisories are possible for Sunday. Keep in mind that conditions will vary locally with urban areas often seeing heat index values higher than nearby rural areas. Similarly...it may be slightly cooler near Lake Erie. It is possible heat index values could briefly exceed 105 degrees in Northwest Ohio and larger urban areas tomorrow afternoon. * Timing...Saturday afternoon and evening. * Impacts...The heat and humidity will create uncomfortable conditions on Saturday. Heat stress and heat related illnesses are possible, especially for the elderly and those sensitive to heat. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Heat Advisory means that the combination of high temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work...the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9 1 1.
