St. Paul’s Chalking of the Doors Tomorrow

St. Paul's Put in BaySt. Paul’s Put-in-Bay will observe the tradition of chalking the doors (weather permitting) on January 6, 2015, from 4-6 p.m.  At 4 p.m. citizens may gather at St. Paul’s and chalk the church doors with the Bible Explorers.  At 4:15 p.m. there will be a house to house “procession” of the homes belonging to the people present.  Time permitting, other homes may be chalked also.  At 6 p.m. the “procession” winds up at the Huston home, where there will be light meal.  Homes not reached during the procession may be chalked at other times throughout the week.  Please feel free to call the church office tomorrow for more information (419-285-5981).

Christians mark doors with chalk as a sign that we have invited God’s presence and blessing into our homes.  Chalk is used in this service as an ordinary substance made of common elements of the earth, put to holy use.  Chalk will not permanently mark the dwelling.  As its image fades from view over time, those who participated in its original placement will remember it and the purpose for which it was intended.
