Regatta gathers on Put-in-Bay “A” dock

All I-LYA Boaters are invited to join for some fun at the Put-in-Bay 2022 Power Boat Regatta beginning 26 July.

Dock at A&C Dock for only a $2.05 ft.

Social Packages for adults on boats that are docked with I-LYA are $50 per person.  Those without boats are $60 per person. Social Packages include all dinner meals.  It also includes activities listed below for 4 days.

Southwesterly breeze, blue skies, and plenty of sunshine deliver a most satisfactory and enjoyable summer’s day.  A brief jaunt around South Bass Island reveals beautiful garden blossoms, families making great memories, multiple forms of enlivening transportation, and the splendor of island landscapes.

 

 

 


Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab Offer Summer Tours at Put-in-Bay

Put-in-Bay, Ohio–Visitors to South Bass Island once again have the chance to explore Lake Erie science and history summer tours at the South Bass Island Lighthouse, the Aquatic Visitors Center and on Gibraltar Island.

The South Bass Island Lighthouse, which was completed in 1897, is located at the southwest tip of the island and was in operation until 1962. The lighthouse grounds are open to the public dawn to dusk free of charge unless otherwise posted. Free tours will be offered from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. August 13, September 10 and October 8, 2022. Visitors can climb the lighthouse stairs to take in the view from the top of the tower. Tours for groups of 10 or more may be scheduled April through November by calling 419-285-1800.

OSU Aquatic Visitors Center Dock

The Aquatic Visitors Center is an educational facility, giving visitors of all ages the chance to explore Lake Erie’s complex ecosystem through hands-on activities and aquaria containing live Lake Erie fish. Children ages 15 and younger can borrow fishing gear and fish for free off the 100-foot pier. A limited number of free life jackets, provided by the BoatUs Foundation, are available for loan.  AVC tours are free and open to the public from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays June 15 through August 20, 2022. Group tour reservations are available mid-May through October at a cost of $5 per person by calling 419-285-1800.

Gibraltar Island, OhioTwo science and history tours of Gibraltar Island are offered each Thursday from June 16 through August 18, 2022 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Groups tour the island, including Perry’s Lookout and the glacial Gibraltar Island, Ohiogrooves and see the outside of Cooke Castle before learning more about Stone Lab research. Tours can accommodate up to 70 people and are first-come, first-served. To attend, meet at 9:45 a.m. or 12:45 p.m. at the Boardwalk Restaurant dock, 341 Bayview Ave. in Put-in-Bay. Tours are $10 per person, $5 for children, plus $8 for round-trip fare to Gibraltar Island, payable to the water taxi driver.

Amphibious Cars at Put-in-Bay? Yes!

AmphicarAmphibious cars, or Amphicar, are a wonderfully unique sight on the waters of Lake Erie.  Put-in-Bay will once again experience the cheerful and adventurous presence of these singular vehicles on Monday, 25 July 2022.  3,046 Amphicars were imported into the United States between 1961 and 1967 from Germany. It has a 4 cylinder British-built Triumph Herald motor at the rear, producing 43 horsepower.

Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce provides the following agenda:

Day 1:  Monday July 25 

11AM – Amphicars arrive on 11AM Miller ferry

12:45PM – Amphicar Parade to the waterfront and around the square –  park at ramp for photos

1PM –  Cars “splash-in” at ramp, followed by an PIB Amphicar Harbor-Parade

1:30PM –  cars do their annual “Island-Swim” to Middle Bass for lunch,

5PM  –  Amphicars return to the ramps for swims, Happy Hour at the Keys, and visit businesses around the square and in the water until last call Monday nite!

Day 2:  Tuesday July 26

Mid morning – Amphicars arrive downtown, hitting all the popular businesses & attractions. Cars and owners will be on-island thru the day, generally based at the ramp next to the Jet Express for questions, trivia and fun

7:30pm –  Amphicars return to the Mainland

Amphicars will return to Put-in-Bay for occasional day-visits:  Wednesday through Saturday
